On your PAX device, open the “Nexo” or “NatWest payments” app.
Select the ‘Pre-Authorisation’ shortcut from the app home screen.
Select the ‘New Pre-Authorisation’ shortcut.
From here, select whether this will be a cardholder present transaction, where the customer is with you or not present (Mail Order or Telephone Order).
Cardholder Present
Enter the initial pre-authorisation amount.
Insert or present card
Insert card into chip card reader on the bottom edge of the device, enter the pin and press ‘confirm’
present the payment card to the contactless reader located at the top on the back of the terminal.
Once the transaction has processed you’ll see ‘Approved’ on the screen
Issuing a receipt - If you have an A50 device, enter the customer’s email address and press confirm if they wish to receive an email receipt. You skip this step by pressing the back arrow on the top left of the device screen. A confirmation screen will follow.
For A80 or A920 Pro devices, you can choose whether to issue a paper, email or no receipt
Important: Make a note of the Host Ref value on the receipt, you will need this for any subsequent top-ups and to process the completion transaction later.
Mail Order / Telephone Order
Enter the initial pre-authorisation amount.
When prompted, enter the customers card number and expiry date in MM/YY format then click ‘Next’
If you selected Telephone Order, you will now be prompted for the card’s CVV, (the 3 digits, normally on the back on the card).
As a minimum enter the cardholders first line of address and postcode, optionally you can also enter the town/city and Country.
Once the transaction has processed you’ll see ‘Approved’ on the screen.
Issuing a receipt - if you have an A50 device, enter the customer’s email address and press confirm if they wish to receive an email receipt. You skip this step by pressing the back arrow on the top left of the device screen. A confirmation screen will follow.
For A80 or A920 Pro devices, you can choose whether to issue a paper, email or no receipt
Important: Make a note of the Host Ref value on the receipt, you will need this for any subsequent top-ups and to process the completion transaction later.

Select the ‘change amount’ shortcut.
When prompted enter the ‘Host Ref No’ which you can find from the original pre-authorisation receipt.
The details of the existing pre-authorisation amount will be shown, now select the ‘change amount’ button.
Enter the new pre-authorisation amount when prompted and click ‘next’
The screen will show the original pre-authorisation amount and the amount to be added or subtracted, click ‘confirm’.
Once the transaction has processed you’ll see ‘Approved’ on the screen
Issuing a receipt - If you have an A50 device, enter the customer’s email address and press confirm if they wish to receive an email receipt. To finalise the transaction and complete the pre-authorisation.
On your PAX device, open the “Nexo” or “NatWest payments” app.
Select the ‘Pre-Authorisation’ shortcut from the app home screen.
Select the ‘Completion’ shortcut.
When prompted enter the ‘Host Ref No’ which you can find from the original pre-authorisation receipt.
The details of the current pre-authorisation will be displayed, now click the ‘Complete Pre-Authorisation’ button.
Enter the final amount for the transaction when prompted. This must be lower than the amount pre-authorised. If you need to increase the pre-authorisation amount, please follow the process to change the pre-authorisation amount first.
The screen will show the existing pre-authorisation amount, click ‘confirm’.
Once the transaction has processed you’ll see ‘Approved’ on the screen.
